Savo Design introduces handles made of plastic waste from oceans

Savo Design is the first to introduce to the Finnish market an ecological handle collection made of plastic waste collected from oceans. Behind the collection is a design company Furnipart and material innovation company Plastix. The new OceanIX collection contains Furnipart’s most popular handle models.

Savo Design is the first to introduce to the Finnish market handles made of old fishing nets and other plastic waste collected from the sea. The collection is a joint effort between two Danish companies Furnipart and Plastix. Timeless high-quality handles have been designed by a Danish designer Hans Sandgren Jakobsen.

– These products combine two things: popular Danish design and innovative outlook on new materials. Furnipart has already previously set itself high sustainability standards and for example all its current and future aluminum handles have since 2018 had a Cradle-to-Cradle Certified product certificate, which means that all the materials used in the products can either be safely returned to the nature or recycled and reused in a high-quality way. There ecological handles are an obvious next step in this development, says Jarmo Suominen, the person in charge of the collection at Savo Design.

During the production process Plastix turns the plastic waste collected from the sea into a new material. The handles are produced locally in Denmark and shipped to customers using only biodegradable packaging materials. The new OceanIX collection, sold in Finland via Savo Design, contains two of Furnipart’s most popular models, Plato and Square, dyed in black.
